For years, the color purple has dominated
the community of Evanston, III., as
the home of Northwestern University's
Wildcats. But soon this upsca Ie community
north of Chicago will be seeing a bit 0
green with the addition uf rhe Winthrop Club
Condominiums.
Bovis Lend Lease is the developer of the
$43 million, J 5-story condominium project.
According to the project owner Winthrop
Properties, the Winthrop Club Condominiums
is a prime example orthe benefi ts of green
bUilding. The project has garnered more than
35 different credits in the U.S. Green Building
Councils LEED rating system, which include
sllstainable site measures, water and energy conservation,
characteristics of materiaJs, resources and indoor environmental
quality. Set to be completed in slimmer 2009, the bui lding will
rank among the most environmentally sound residential developIIlrnts
in the country.
The owner of the wiothrop Club Condominiums
notes that the luxury condominium building
is currently the only high-rise in Evanston
designed to meet LEED stilllda rds.lt says the project
is designed to capture LEBO credits in five cMegories.
These standards help to minimize environmental
impact, maximize energy efficiency and
create a healthier living space.
"More importan tly, residents will enjoy
green li ving that is healthier, more comfortable,
and more cost-effective, in the place they value
most: their home," Winthrop Properties notes.
"Winthrop Club is a prime exam ple ufthe benefits
going green holds for everyone:
Another environmentaJly friendly component
of the Winthrop Club Condom iniums is heing within walking distance
of the Metra commuter train and two Chicago Transportation
Authority train stops. The building will feature covered on-site
storage for bicycles and a green roof system to reduce heat absorption
and to help keep surround ing areas cooler.
Sustainably Luxurious
Residents wiU be treated to views of Lake
Miclligan, dOW1l1own Evanston, the North
Shore and the Chicago skyline when they
glance out of the floor-to-ceiling, energy-efficient
windows. Bovis Lend Lease notes that
high-end finishes can be found throughout
the 96 total units, including the four penthouse
units. Kitchens feature custom Italian
cabinetry with undennount stainless steel
sinks with polished granite edges and oversized
granite kitchen countertops. Oak hardwood
floors are .in aLi living areas with premium-
grade ca rpeting in all bedrooms. The master
bathroom features marble countertops with
single- or double-bowl vanities, a soaking tub
and dressi.ng mirrors with sconces.
Amenities or the building include a lobby
with 24-hour doorman, fitness center. swimming
pool and a restaurant. The Winthrop
Club Condominium building also will provide
residents with an oversized sundeck, a club
room and balconies.
These amenities are complememed by the
numerous sustainable features found on the
project. For example, energy-efficient mechanical
systems and low-e windows contribute to
energy costs that are 20 percent lower than a
building that meets the International Energy
Conservation Code, Winthrop Properties says.
Winthrop Club Condominium also conserves
water through features such as ellicient
kitchen and bathroom plumbing fixtures and
landsca ping tJlat uses coUected rainwater for
watering. The owner says the project also uses
loca lly sourced building materials as well as
recycled materials.
